Excerpt from my book, My Coming of Age
'As
I sit writing I return to a dream I had a few years ago.
It was Friday Dec. 4, 1998. I
dreamt my great grandmother, Texanna Davis, was telling me how she suffered.
She said, “You think your grandmother suffered, but I really
suffered!” She described a
lifetime as being similar to building blocks on a building. She said my grandmother took up where she left off, and that
now I’m taking up where my grandmother left off, each building on to what the
other accomplished during their lifetime.
